We’re looking for a Cel / Character Animator who can bring characters to life with strong performance, acting, and polish. You’ll animate in a traditional 2D sensibility (frame-by-frame where needed) and also be comfortable jumping into rigged character workflows in tools like Moho to move quickly and stay consistent across a series. You’ll collaborate closely with Art Direction, Story, Design, and Production to hit a high bar for character work across brand films, explainers, and short-form content.
Responsibilities
- Animate character-driven shots with clear acting, timing, and appealing poses.
- Execute a mix of frame-by-frame (cel-style) animation and rigged animation depending on the project’s needs.
- Work from storyboards, animatics, and reference to deliver shots that feel alive, readable, and on-model.
- Prepare, organize, and manage animation files for efficient iteration and handoff.
- Collaborate with character designers and riggers to improve rigs, troubleshoot issues, and keep workflows smooth.
- Participate in reviews, incorporate notes quickly, and communicate tradeoffs early (timing, complexity, staging).
- Support consistency across sequences by matching style, spacing, line quality, and performance.
- Partner with compositing/edit to ensure animation integrates cleanly with backgrounds, FX, and final timing.
Requirements
- Strong reel/portfolio showing character animation with convincing performance and polish.
- Excellent fundamentals: posing, spacing, arcs, weight, overlap, facial animation, and lip sync.
- Experience with frame-by-frame 2D animation (cel-style) and cleanup as needed.
- Working proficiency with rigged 2D character animation in Moho (or the ability to pick it up quickly).
- Comfort working in a modern animation pipeline with clear naming, versioning, and shot tracking.
- Ability to take direction, give and receive feedback, and iterate without losing quality.
